Après-ski c’est chic

Classy outfits for dances and bombardino

by Maria Bellotto @thecashmerediaries

Dear gou gous, what plans do you have for the coming weekends at -15°? Whether you’re ready for black slopes, sun, and whiskey on the snow in Courmayeur (should we say Gourmayeur?) or après-ski in Cortina, the Buongusto comes with us for the White Week as well.

And in fact, we won’t leave you alone on the snow either, as we have for you a gourmode-style guide for classy outfits for dances and bombardino.

It doesn’t matter if the gou gou can ski; whether he is the king or queen of the slopes, or an honorary member of the bombardino ski club, the ski suit is a must for the après-ski dress code. Why so? Because it keeps you warm, it’s the right piece in the right place, and it’s tremendously en vogue. As long as you know how to choose it.

Green light to slouchy cuts and super technical, warm, and comfortable materials (impossible to enjoy the day if we can’t stop shivering – not very chic!): the black or navy blue one-piece jumpsuit is the equivalent of the little black dress on the slopes and will never go out of style. If we want a more sporty look, there’s no doubt about it: those who are gourmode right down to the tights will choose a super bold second-skin model in fiery red, which goes divinely with a pair of super-fitted ski goggles with a slightly mod and retro allure.

And if the ski instructor has gone for a well-deserved break, here comes to the rescue the l’homme gourmode with a cup of bombardino, ça va sans dire! Here, there are two ways to go: James Bond-esque vintage style (Sean, of course) with sophisticated details that don’t look out of place from the slopes to après-ski in the chalet, or a bolder, more technical, super-coloured, snowboarding and black-slope style. Be careful, the gou gou boy does not stop even in front of the Direttissima in Madonna di Campiglio – if you know, you know.

Très bien, whether you’re snowplowing or à la Adam Driver and Camille Cottin in House of Gucci, it’s time to put down your skis and boards and soak up the sun on some terrace with a breathtaking view. Green light to oversized or super slim jacquard jumpers (we don’t like half sizes, ever), super warm sherpa-effect fleece or soft teddy bear gilets to layer over the latest thermal sweaters.

If the sun isn’t hot enough and you are reaching your skier friends by chairlift, a shearling with a 70s line will be the perfect solution!

On the head, like a true aprés-ski czarina, the gou gou obviously dares to wear a fur hat « colbacco »: between the ice queen model and the technical Arctic expedition style, the choice is hard. And the feet? The cinderellas of the slopes can’t afford to lose a shoe, they need a technical one like the Moon Boot (but super colourful, otherwise it doesn’t count) or a classic pedula, which with its austere style never goes out of style.

It’s always the detail that distinguishes a true lady gourmode, and in this case, it’s that centimetre of sock that pops out when she crosses her legs gracefully sitting at the chalet table (or during the last dance on the terrace, or the tumble in the fresh snow, oops).

If the gou gou adapts to the Cortinese ski-chic, style c’est tout, and in the snow, we can also afford to exaggerate with slightly nostalgic garments, à la Prince, pardon me, King, Charles. From the Fair Isle cardigan to the ugly Eighties pullover, worn under a jacket for a true lumberjack or a vest for a real bomber, the aprè-ski can be achieved with class.

Extra stylish touch? The fur and technical fabric Colbacco for him too, with super-warm sheepskin gloves and glacier goggles – to hint that, of course, after the last rum punch we’re leaving with the sledge dogs, so give me one last kiss, my darling.

And hey, shall we talk about the neck bandana, perfect to be nonchalantly forgotten on the chalet counter? We love it, and we already know it will be cleverly stolen by a passing lady: it’s perfect for securing the ponytail.

The last detail is the footwear: if the homme gourmode has to be ready for anything, including rescue missions of the last bottle of champagne left chilling in the snow and other outdoor adventures, he cannot do without a classy but high-performance pedula – the winter equivalent of the Chelsea boot or moccasin. And underneath, a self-deprecating sock, but not too much!

Prepare your ski passes (o chic-passes?), chers gou gous, and put on your snow chains: Gourmode awaits you on the snowy slopes, with aprè-ski, soirée fondue and hot bombardino – always with our impeccable taste and savoir-faire.
