La Cartolina from Capri

July 8, 2022 #voyage

Our gourmode journey in the company of gou gous from all over Italy continues in a glamorous and élite place, known for its craggy rocks, blue sea and the scent of lemons: Capri.

The special postcard from the magical island was sent to us by Mirta Robiony, a habitué of this enchanted land, ready to treat us with authentic local tidbits and tips.

Born under the sign of curiosity and based in Naples, Mirta is a fashion stylist and co-founder of Sartoria Nomade, an artisan garment brand, aesthete and travel lover. Who better than her to serve up hidden gems from the island of the Sirens?

Let’s flick through the menu together to discover places of the heart, à la mode and gourmet, and decree our plats préférés.

Let’s leave the word to our habitué!

Locations of the heart to absolutely be seen

ANACAPRI

Not everyone knows that there are two towns on the island: the most famous and fashionable Capri, with its designer boutiques and many tourists, while the quieter, more authentic Anacapri, for me is a place of the heart where I have spent every vacation since I was born. A wonderful silence reigns in Anacapri on the streets even in the middle of August, and the few locals you pass will greet you courteously even if they have never seen you before.

The little stores sell linen clothing and ceramic items, as well as the legendary handmade sandals. There is still great excitement here for village festivals such as the famous Settembrata, the grape festival celebrating the grape harvest and the end of summer, where all the locals actively participate, decorating their homes, dressing up, and cooking for the food trails through the narrow streets of the old town.

VILLA SAN MICHELE

Probably one of the most beautiful villas on the island, it was the home of Axel Munthe and is now a museum not to be missed. The breathtaking view of Punta della Campanella, the gardens and the exhibits preserved inside make it one of the most fascinating places on the island.

THE LIGHTHOUSE

One of the most beautiful bays of the island is overlooked by the imposing silhouette of the Punta Carena lighthouse. It is an ideal place not only to take beautiful swims in the sea while admiring the local kids making miraculous dives from the cliffs, but it is a meeting point for an aperitif while watching the sunset behind Ischia.

THE PIAZZETTA

There is little to say that has not already been said about this mythical place, the “living room of the world,” the centre of the island’s social life. One can’t help but sit at least once in one of the famous bars, to have an aperitif or sgroppino after dinner, while watching the passing by tourists, old friends and celebrities.

THE GREAT MARINA

It is the visitor’s first image of the island, and despite the large crowds pouring in every day, it has maintained the appearance of a small fishing village, with moored goitres and fishing boats.

VIA KRUPP

One of Capri’s most famous roads connects the centre with Marina Piccola. It is currently closed due to danger from falling rocks, but its hairpin bends that reach the emerald green sea are still a sight to behold from the Gardens of Augustus.

VIA TRAGARA

A quiet, elegant street lined with some of Capri’s most beautiful villas, awash with flowery scents and leading to the belvedere from which to admire the Faraglioni. Wonderful to walk along at sunset time and perhaps stop for an aperitif at Hotel Punta Tragara.

NATURAL ARCH

A work of art of nature, surrounded by Mediterranean macchia, can be reached after a long and pleasant walk. From its perspective, you can enjoy the fascinating panorama of Punta Campanella, Li Galli and the Amalfi Coast.

TOUR BY GOZZO

You cannot visit Capri without taking at least one tour of the island in a gozzo. Rent one from Ciro (who also has a Riva Aquarama in his fleet, if you feel like a special Dolce Vita-style ride), buy a Capri sandwich from the legendary Da Aldo delicatessen in Marina Grande and enjoy the bays and grottos that this fantastic island has to offer.

Locations à la mode

CHANTECLER

Capri’s most famous jeweller, founded in the 1950s, and with its iconic jewellery such as the bell and the eye-catching earrings with the island’s symbols, represents that slightly nostalgic Italian style that has made it famous throughout the world.

Chantecler – Via Vittorio Emanuele 51, Capri

LE FARELLA

A wonderful, 100% Capri-based company specialising in handmade knitwear in the local tradition. In addition to the boutique in Via Botteghe, where you can buy the famous shawls that are essential for cool Capri evenings. Furthermore, in the centre of Capri, there is a textile studio where the hand looms are kept.

Le Farella – Via Fuorlovado 21 c, Capri

ANTONIO VIVA

The sandal from Capri is an art, and Antonio Viva is a true artist. Each sandal is still made by hand, made to measure and in just a few minutes. Customisable, very chic and essential on an island where walking is the basis of social life and not only, you cannot leave Capri without buying at least a pair or two of sandals.

Antonio Viva – Via Giuseppe Orlandi 75, Capri

Locations gourmet

LO SMERALDO

My favourite restaurant in Capri, where you can have lunch a stone’s throw from the sea with the best fish specialities and more. Surely not to be missed are the aubergine meatballs and the pasta with sea urchins. And after lunch a nice dip in the emerald waters.

Lo Smeraldo – Piazza Vittoria 1, Capri

PULALLI

A lovely little restaurant in the Piazzetta, with typical food and an unbeatable location. For a romantic evening, book a table for two outside on the little terrace overlooking the famous clock.

Pulalli – Piazza Umberto I 4, Capri

LE GROTTELLE

A restaurant with a typical, family atmosphere, one of the few remaining reminders of old Capri, amidst simple, delicious food, courtesy and a breathtaking view. Don’t miss dinner here after you walk to the natural arch.

Le Grottelle – Via Arco Naturale 13, Capri

LA RONDINELLA

A small restaurant that has been family-run for generations in the centre of Anacapri, where traditional dishes are served with a modern twist.

La Rondinella – Via Giuseppe Orlandi 295, Anacapri

Among insider addresses and daydreams, our minds travelled through little streets, cosy restaurants and the blue sea, satisfying every sense and planning our Italian summer.

While we wait to find out who will be the sender of the next postcard addressed to us, we wholeheartedly thank Mirta Robiony and Roberto Stella, authors of these wonderful shots with pen and paper in hand, just like in the old days, we carefully note down every detail and prepare our gou gou suitcase in the name of buongusto!

Bisous
