Seasonal decluttering: menu changes à la mode

Dear gou gous, summer getaways are now a distant memory, our days totally immersed in city tram trams, work frenzy, à la mode appointments and mouth-watering new projects.

Even clothing, ça va sans dire, is abuzz with change: camel coats served in abundance like caramel on panna cotta, and soft cashmere jumpers as fluffy as whipped cream, crowd the shop windows along with mohair scarves, velvets, and luxurious winter fabrics that only increase the desire to cuddle up with a hot chocolate. To express our autumnal flair, we have to face what for many is a dreaded and often postponed moment: the menu change of our wardrobe!

It will be almost as easy as making our favourite teatime cake, layer by layer we are going to compose the new à la carte proposal, decluttering, to get rid of old garments to which we can give new life or little used ones that no longer represent us, with pieces more in line with our style and the season’s mouth-watering trends. Et voilà, among meringues, feathers, sugar and sequins, here are the secret ingredients of the sweet recipe:

1) Tackle one part at a time and proceed in order:

We carefully arrange everything we need in exactly the same way as we select the necessities to create the dream bento cake, emptying one area of the wardrobe at a time, selecting any items to be discarded and repositioning those for the new season.

2) Cleaning and perfume:

Before storing summer garments, let’s make sure they are washed and folded carefully; if there are small repairs to be made, let’s do them! Gourmode touch? The perfume to store in containers and drawers, mmm vanilla, berries, lavender, mint? How delicious!

3) It all starts with the hanger:

The silverware? The essential detail of our tables and cupboards! In order to create a gourmet à la mode outfit, hangers play an important role: we like them all the same to hang clothes at the same height and cheer the eye! Good point? Thin and made of velvet or metal from silver to rose gold, how chic!

4) The power of colour:

Regardless of the reference colour palette, colour is a fundamental part of self-expression and style, we love sorting clothes by nuance, imagining them as exquisite macarons in the windows of our favourite bakeries!

And now? New menu in hand, it’s aperitif time: seasonal shopping! Before we bite into new purchases, let’s remember that the must-haves that are the same for everyone are just a cliché: let’s personalise our style!

The little black dress? You can safely avoid it if its only function is to make a presence!

Versatile garments are like salmon canapés, an evergreen!

To add a little bubbly to this sparkling moment and fill the wardrobe for lunch and dinner, trendy pieces and must-have novelties will be:

Entrées: hyper-feminine corsets served with a blazer and trousers or layered with a blouse or jumper for a daytime outfit. A real treat is the proposals by Alice Pons and other emerging designers such as DennJ and Giorgia Arcidiacono.

Plat principal: leather or faux leather garments: jackets, coats, skirts, but especially trousers! From Max Mara’s 5-pocket to Nanushka’s palazzo pants, to Frame’s classic black second-skin effect. The alternative? A pair of velvet trousers in different colours and models, the adorable MiLaura corduroy one to match with over jumpers for a super cosy look or with a shirt and blazer for a business casual look with a British flavour.

Desserts: the ultimate box of chocolates with lots of variations? The boot! This year, the 70’s style is to be chosen, with a tubular knee-high boot and squared heel, comfortable and versatile, perfect with skirts and midi dresses. The colour? In all shades of chocolate of course!

Curious to see your delightful seasonal wardrobe proposals, we wish you excellent autumn outfits tasting and good shopping!
